Magazine Moments is a feature from Eileen in our Technical Services department. In addition to many other duties, Eileen receives and processes all of the magazines for our collection. She gets to see everything that’s new and exciting in these magazines before anyone else, so she’s offered to share some of what caught her eye this month in Magazine Moments.
AppleMagazine is described as a weekly publication packed with news, iTunes and App reviews, interviews and original articles on anything and everything Apple. It is available in our magazine area or online through Zinio.
This issue has 18 pages filled with pictures and information about David Bowie. The singer, who was 69, died on January 10, 2016 of cancer.
He had hits that included “Space Oddity,” “Fame,” and “Let’s Dance.” The article explains how Bowie turned the music world upside down with the release of the 1972 album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. He had some big successes in the early 1980s with “Let’s Dance,” and “Under Pressure.” He had just recently released a music video for the new song “Lazarus.” One stand-out recording from 1977 was Bowie’s duet with Bing Crosby. Crosby sang “The Little Drummer Boy” while Bowie sang “Peace on Earth” in counterpoint.
