Magazine Moments is a feature from Eileen in our Technical Services department. In addition to many other duties, Eileen receives and processes all of the magazines for our collection. She gets to see everything that’s new and exciting in these magazines before anyone else, so she’s offered to share some of what caught her eye this month in Magazine Moments.
Featured Magazine: Time, March 28, 2016 issue
Congratulations to Time on 93 years!
The first issue of Time hit newsstands on March 3, 1923 and featured Speaker of the House Joseph G. Cannon. Time Magazine was created by Briton Hadden and Henry Luce, and was the first weekly news magazine in the United States. Hadden and Luce wanted to inform busy readers about current events, and present their information in a well-organized manner.
Today, Time is still all about keeping readers informed. This week’s cover story (page 42) has Apple CEO, Tim Cook, speaking out about his fight with the FBI, and the tug-of-war between the FBI trying to prevent terrorist attacks and Silicon Valley trying to protect citizen privacy.
