Exciting things are happening in the world of e-books and e-audiobooks! OverDrive has been completely integrated with our Troy Public Library online catalog. What this means for you is a vastly improved ease of use in accessing our downloadable content.
With the new OverDrive integration, patrons can search for materials in our online catalog, and it will show an account of every copy that the library carries, in physical form, audiobook, and e-book. Whereas before, our catalog showed that we owned a digital title but little else, it now offers an accurate reflection of how many copies are available and the holds list for said titles. Patrons can also add themselves to the holds list from the online catalog as well. The process of accessing content through the OverDrive Media Console App or through the MCLS OverDrive website still function in the same way. This simply adds more options to how our patrons choose to access their information.
Patron information within their personal account in the catalog now shows all titles currently checked out to them, including any e-books and audiobooks. If a new digital title has been checked out to a patron, before it has been downloaded to a device, a “Check In” button will show up next to the title. Clicking this button will automatically return the title to the MCLS Digital Library. Once a title has been downloaded, this option will disappear. A digital title will always show up with zero renewals left, as the renewal policy through OverDrive is still the same. Instead of allowing renewals, OverDrive asks patrons to place their names on the holds list, and if they are next on the list, the title will be re-checked out to them.
NOTE: Because digital titles are now listed in the online catalog, patrons WILL receive a customary email stating that the title is due to be returned. As always, digital titles will automatically delete themselves when their rental time expires. There is no way for overdue fines to occur through the rental of digital titles.
