Get a Library Card

To register, you must supply a valid Michigan Driver’s License or State ID with your current address listed. If you do not have this you must bring a photo ID or passport AND one of the following: home contract/purchase agreement, current property tax statement, current utility bill, current car registration or dated lease agreement.
Applicants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who will become the responsible party and give permission for the child’s library card. A minor applicant with a valid legal ID may be issued a temporary card and a letter will be sent home for the parent’s authorization.
Resident: Troy residents or property owners may get a library card with full privileges which include access to all Troy Public Library-owned materials, materials owned by Suburban Library Cooperative libraries, and items found in MeLCat, as well as access to digital content and databases.
Work: Those who work in Troy may get a library card which will allow access to all Troy Public Library-owned materials as well as access to digital content and databases. Proof of employment is required.
School: Those who attend a public or private school in Troy may get a library card with one of the following:
- Student ID with Troy school address
- Proof of enrollment with school address (recent report cards are accepted)
Relationships with Other Libraries
SLC: Residents of Suburban Library Cooperative communities have access to all Troy Public Library-owned materials and access to some digital content. You will be required to provide your home library card to complete the registration process. The list of communities and their associated library can be found in the link above.
Reciprocal: Residents of the following communities have access to all Troy Public Library-owned materials as reciprocal borrowers. This does not include access to digital content or databases. You will be required to provide your home library card to complete the registration process. These communities include:

Non-resident: Those who do not qualify for any other card may purchase a card for $200 per year and receive full privileges at the Troy Public Library and the rest of the Suburban Library Cooperative libraries.
