Dear TPL Community:
It is my honor to introduce myself as the new Director of Troy Public Library. Troy Library holds a very special place in my heart and memory, as I spent many happy childhood moments at TPL. Growing up in Troy and participating in library events was my first introduction to libraries, and served to inspire me towards the path I am on today.
I have previously served as Library Director for Royal Oak Public Library, where I led the library into a major interior renovation, while working with the staff to provide the best possible programs and services. Prior to becoming director, I served as the Head of Youth & Teen Services where I was privileged to see on a daily basis how transformative the library can be for families and young people. I feel so extremely fortunate to get to wake up every day and do a job that serves the public and provides so many resources to help our community succeed. I have a passion for evolving and adapting library services to best meet the community’s needs, and I love bringing new ideas to fruition. I am beyond excited to begin work at TPL, especially with the recent millage passed and so many positive changes on the horizon.
In my personal life I am a wife, a mother of a very active young daughter, and the owner of a Black Lab/Great Dane mix named Truman, who along with my daughter, always seems to keep my husband and I on our toes! I enjoy eating out and traveling (although there hasn’t been much of either of these hobbies lately!), along with going on long walks. And not surprisingly I love to read, my favorite genre being “thrillers.”
In closing, I want to thank the multitudes of patrons who continue to support the library, especially in these difficult times, and make a sincere promise to work with my staff to provide the best in library services for our wonderful community. I look forward to this journey and can’t wait for all of the good things to come.
All my best,
Emily M. Dumas
