Dear TPL Community:
I wanted to thank you all for the warm reception I have received in my first three weeks as TPL director. I’ve been so fortunate to already experience what a welcoming, kind, and engaged community this is, and you have really shown me how much you love our library!
Along with the warm welcomes, I have also received many emails on specific questions. One of the most commonly asked has been, “When will the library building reopen to the public?” Regarding this, I appreciate your patience and understanding as I get settled in and begin evaluating the library’s reopening metrics. My staff and I have been in the process of organizing a safe and effective reopening plan that will allow us to serve the public to the best of our ability, while also keeping everyone safe. The first step was to create a phased reopening plan tied to metrics as determined by local and state health officials, so that our processes and procedures are guided by the most current and reliable expert research and data. For this we have adopted the MI Start Map risk levels to help guide us in developing our plan forward. A target date for reopening will be shortly forthcoming, and please remember to stay tuned to our social media, website, and eNewsletter as we’ll make updates available as soon as possible.
I thank you for your patience during these challenging times. We are all eager for a safe return to the building, but in the meantime, please visit our website to check out all of our services that are available online. Need a library card? Want a book, movie, or music? Want to attend a program? Need to use the internet? Looking for a librarian’s assistance? We’ve got you covered! Our physical doors may be closed, but our wonderful services are still available at your fingertips.
Again, thank you for making my first weeks on the job so welcoming. I very much look forward to serving this wonderful community, and all of the bright days ahead for TPL!
All my best,
